Wall Insulation
Stop heat escaping and make your home warmer
Wall insulation is a simple and effective way to keep your home warm and reduce energy bills. It helps stop heat from escaping through your walls—so you stay cosier for longer, without having to turn the heating up.
With support from the UK government, you may be able to get it installed at no cost.
- Keeps warmth in
- Lowers energy bills
- Improves home comfort
- Fully funded for eligible households
What is wall insulation?
Wall insulation is a layer of material that goes into or onto your external walls to stop heat from escaping.
There are two main types of wall insulation:
- Cavity wall insulation – for homes built after the 1920s that have a gap between the outer and inner wall.
- Solid wall insulation – for older homes that don’t have a cavity. This can be added to the inside or outside of the wall.
Both types reduce heat loss, cut down on draughts, and help you use less energy to stay warm.
Why insulate your walls?
Cut your heating costs
A third of all heat lost in an uninsulated home escapes through the walls. Wall insulation keeps that warmth inside, reducing how much energy you use.
More comfortable living
Rooms feel warmer and hold heat for longer—especially in colder weather.
Better for the environment
Using less energy means lowering your carbon footprint. Wall insulation is a small change that makes a big difference.
Adds value to your home
Insulated homes are more energy-efficient, which can improve your EPC rating and even boost your property’s value.
Fully funded for many households
Through Warmify, you could get wall insulation at no cost, thanks to government funding.

FAQs about wall insulation
If your home was built after 1920, it likely has cavity walls. Older homes usually have solid walls. Don’t worry—our team will confirm this during your free home survey.
Cavity wall insulation is usually done from the outside, through small holes that are filled in afterward. Solid wall insulation may take longer and involve more visible changes, but we’ll explain everything upfront before any work begins.
When installed correctly by qualified professionals, wall insulation should not cause damp. Our installers will assess your home to make sure it’s suitable and carry out any ventilation improvements if needed.
Yes, depending on your home and circumstances, you may also be eligible for other improvements like loft insulation or solar panels. We’ll discuss all your options after the survey.
Usually, cavity wall insulation doesn’t need planning permission. Solid wall insulation may need it in some cases—especially for external wall insulation or listed buildings. If so, we’ll handle that part of the process.
